Beer can chicken

I'm always looking for new recipes to make in my Dutch oven . I've roasted a chicken , pot pie , and made lemon pepper chicken thighs .

My initial plan for dinner tonight was going to be a beer can chicken in the smoker . When I couldn't figure out a way to prop the chicken up in the smoker on the beer can I figured I'd try it in the oven. That's when the Dutch oven came in clutch .

The chicken came out juicy with a crispy crunchy skin.

Ingredients

• whole chicken

• 1 tbsp garlic powder

• a pinch of salt

• a pinch of pepper

• 2 tbsp honey hog bbq rub

• 1 tbsp onion powder

• 1 can of beer ( I chose a chocolate s'mores stout )

• 3 tbsp butter

Directions

1.) preheat oven to 425

2.) clean out the chicken. Rinse and pat dry

3.) rub chicken with softened butter coating all the skin( this will help the seasonings stick)

4.) mix all the seasonings in a small bowl

5.) cover the chicken in the seasoning

6.) place opened beer can in Dutch oven carefully place chicken onto the can .

7.) bake in preheated oven for 35-40 minutes depending on the size of your chicken. Internal temperature should be 165 when done .

Below you will find a photo of the chicken in the Dutch oven when I had just placed it in the oven. If you get a tall enough beer it will help keep the chicken up right .

This was a delicious recipe and I will definitely be doing it again.
