Portuguese Milk Tarts

Portuguese milk tarts, also known as Queijadas de Leite are a traditional Portuguese dessert . This recipie uses 3 simple ingredients you probably already have stocked in your home.

These tasty little tarts are creamy on the inside and have a crispy crème brûlée type crunch to the outside.

They are fairly simple to make and will dirty few dishes in the process !

Ingredients

5 large eggs

3 cups of granulated sugar

1 1/2 cups of all propose flour

3 cups milk

1 cup of butter (soften at room temp)

1 lemon, peeled

1 teaspoon of pure vanilla* optional

Confectioners sugar, for dusting* optional

Instructions

•Preheat oven at 350 degrees F
•Grease cupcake pans. ( the tarts tend to stick when baked, so lube those pans up)

• Next grab a small saucepan over medium heat, add the peels from one lemon and milk.
• Simmer for 5 minutes. • Remove from heat and let the milk become infused with the lemon flavor.

*Don’t forget to remove the peels before you use the milk in the recipe.

•In a large bowl, add the eggs and sugar and beat until a creamy consistency. • Then cube your room temperature butter and add the soften butter to the egg and sugar mix
• Once mixture is creamy add the flour a little at a time.( I added 1/4 cup at a time)
• After adding your flour it's time to add the lemon-infused milk and vanilla to your batter , continue to beat everything well together.

❗️This batter has a different texture, unlike a cake batter, it’s very runny. So resist the urge to add more flour.❗️

• Grab your greased cupcake tins and fill 3/4 full
• Place in preheated oven bake for 40-45 minutes ( you will know the tarts are done when the sides are a browned and the middle is caramelized )
Let the tarts cool & then ENJOY !

Before you serve you can dust them with confectioners sugar if you'd like .

I hope you enjoy as much as we did . These yummy treats pair well with a nice cold glass of wine 😘
